GUIDE TO GESTATION WEEK BY WEEK

FIRST QUARTER: 1ST TO 13TH WEEK (APPROXIMATELY)

  • 1st Week : ovulation
  • 2nd Week : fertilization
  • 3rd Week : from single cell to embryo
  • 4th Week : cell differentiation begins
  • 5th Week : formation of embryonic structures
  • Week 6 : heart cells begin to beat
  • Week 7 : all organs are in development
  • Week 8 : the first movements
  • Week 9 : begins to resemble a baby
  • 10th Week : the embryonic period ends
  • Week 11 : yawns and moves in amniotic fluid
  • 12th Week : the baby is fully formed
  • 13th Week : the heart is heard through an ultrasound

SECOND QUARTER: FROM THE 14TH TO THE 26TH WEEK (APPROXIMATELY)

  • 14th Week : the placenta works in full
  • Week 15 : listen to the sounds of the mother’s body
  • 16th Week : able to coordinate movements
  • 17th Week : listen to sounds outside the mother’s body
  • 18th Week : fingerprints are formed
  • 19th Week : the stomach produces gastric juice
  • 20th Week : the top of the womb reaches your navel
  • 21st Week : the kidneys begin to produce amniotic fluid
  • Week 22 : the brain grows rapidly
  • 23ª Semana : distinguishes sounds outside the uterus and those of the mother’s body
  • 24th Week : it is a viable baby although small and immature
  • 25th Week : close your hands and grab your feet
  • 26th Week : responds to external stimuli

THIRD QUARTER: FROM 27TH TO 40TH + WEEK (APPROXIMATELY)

  • 27th Week : becoming rounder and rounder
  • 28th Week : likes to hear the voice of the mother
  • 29th Week : you can distinguish between sunlight and artificial
  • 30th Week : Upside Down!
  • 31st Week : eye color begins to set
  • 32nd Week : The baby’s five senses are working
  • 33ª Week : recording of fetal movements
  • 34th Week : the baby is developing his immune system
  • 35th Week : countdown to birth
  • Week 36 : You are ready to be born at any time
  • 37th Week : is considered a term baby
  • Week 38 : clinically mature and ready to be born
  • Week 39 : fully formed and ready to be born
  • 40th + Week : ready for your new life outside the womb
